Pediatric Dental X-Rays
Digital dental X-rays give Dr. Lim a complete picture of your child's oral health β revealing cavities, tracking jaw development, and catching problems that are invisible to the naked eye, all with significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays.
π Call (860) 263-7791Our digital radiography system produces high-resolution diagnostic images while emitting up to 90% less radiation than older film-based systems. Combined with lead aprons and thyroid collars, the exposure is far below any level of concern β and we only take X-rays when they are clinically necessary.
X-rays allow us to detect cavities forming between teeth long before they cause pain or become visible, monitor the development and positioning of incoming permanent teeth, evaluate tooth roots and surrounding bone health, and identify cysts, abscesses, or other hidden concerns beneath the gums.
For growing children and teenagers, X-rays are also an important tool for tracking jaw development and identifying early orthodontic issues β giving families time to plan ahead.
We follow the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's evidence-based guidelines to determine how often X-rays are appropriate for each child. Most healthy children with low cavity risk need X-rays every 12 to 24 months; higher-risk children may need them more frequently.
Our child-sized sensors and experienced pediatric team make the process fast and comfortable, even for young children. HUSKY Health and most major dental insurance plans cover diagnostic X-rays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are dental X-rays safe for my child?
Yes. Our digital X-rays emit up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays. We also use lead aprons and thyroid collars and only take X-rays when clinically necessary.
How often does my child need dental X-rays?
The frequency depends on your child's individual oral health. Most children need X-rays every 12β24 months, while higher-risk children may need them more often.
What can X-rays detect that a visual exam cannot?
X-rays reveal cavities forming between teeth, developing permanent teeth, bone levels, infections, cysts, and jaw development issues invisible to the naked eye.
Does my child need to do anything to prepare for X-rays?
No special preparation is needed. X-rays are taken quickly during a regular visit. If your child is very young, we may wait until they are comfortable before attempting X-rays.
